Welcome to the web-site of Nigel Murray, a London based artist whose work is rooted in a deep love of drawing, especially from direct observation. This has led to a constant search for evocative shapes, patterns and colours that capture a sense of place or a mood. Figurative, semi-abstract and abstract approaches are explored in response to the Cornish coast, the Wiltshire and Suffolk countryside and the wooded areas and pathways of south-west London. Trained at Harrow and Camberwell, Nigel has worked as an artist, illustrator and teacher and is happy to discuss commissions and one to one tutoring. He has had work exhibited at The New English Art Club and The Pastel Society in the last year. Nigel has work on display at The Tom Zaw Gallery in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. Recent visits to Cornwall and Wiltshire have provided plenty of material for future work.
Nigel is planning an exhibition at Fisherton Mill in Salisbury for 2023 on the theme of the Cranborne Chase that straddles Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire and contains the hamlet of Tollard Royal where Nigel spent his formative years. The surrounding landscape continues to be a profound inspiration.
